There are a few different types of rifle shooting which are conducted at our Club. All types are carried out under the Standard Shooting Rules of the National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA).  

Various Disciplines of Rifle Shooting

Full Bore Target Rifle

A single action bolt rifle with a peep sight. 7.62mm (.308 calibre). Commonly used for shooting distances 300 - 1200 yards/metres. Traditional Style of Full Bore Shooting.

 

300 Metre ISSF
 

A bolt action rifle with peep sight.7.62mm (.308 calibre). Commonly used for shooting at 300 metres.

 

Match Rifle

A bolt action rifle with peep or telescopic sight.7.62mm (.308 calibre). Commonly used to shoot at distances 1000 -1200 yards/metres.

 

F Class - Scope Rifle

A bolt action rifle with telescopic sight and rest (up to 8mm). Commonly used to shoot distances 300 -1000 yards/metres.

 

Field Class

A bolt action rifle (up to 8mm), magazine permitted. Commonly used to shoot distaces 100 - 300 yards/metres.

 

Rimfire Class
 

A bolt action rifle .22 calibre. Commonly used to shoot distances 30 - 90 yards/metres.

 

Long Range Black Powder

Muzzle loading, percussion breach loading and metallic cartridge single shot rifles (from .45 to .58 calibre). usually used to shoot 300 -100 yards.

 

Service Rifle
 

Approved rifles up to 7.62mm, magazines permitted, fired at 100 to 300 yards/metres.

 

 


Rifle Shooting matches are generally fired at distances of 300 -1200 yards. Most common position for shooting is the prone position (lying stomach down position). 
Service, Field and Rimfire matches are fired from standing, kneeling and prone positions at ranges of 30 - 300 metres/yards. 
The sport of rifle shooting is open to both men and women of all ages.
South Australian law designates that a person using a rifle must be a minimum of 14 years of age and adults 18 years and over must be eligible for a South Australian Firearms Licence. 
 

Note: Potential new members are advised to apply at their local Police Station for a Firearms Licence.

Visitors wishing to shoot at the club will be asked to sign a declaration on each visit stating they have not had a licence suspended cancelled or are otherwise prohibited from possessing firearms.

Photographic identification will be sighted and confirmation details noted.
